Where does speed / travel time data come from?
The data comes from TomTom’s huge “historical” database. It is obtained through a dashboard provided by TomTom. Access to the dashboard is only available under a licencing agreement signed and paid for by a licence holder. TCi has a licence.
If you are interested in having your own licence then TCi will be happy to help you organise that with TomTom.
What sort of information can you provide?
From TomTom’s database, TCi can provide traffic speed and travel time on individual segments of the roads you have selected. That means you can look at part or the whole of the route at any time of any day in the period of record.
If you want traffic volume and/or the cost of congestion … TCi can provide that too.
How can traffic speed / travel time be used?
Traffic speed and travel time can be used:
- to investigate STABILITY in travel time on a defined route
- for profiling speed prior to a CRASH and looking at the traffic impact of the crash
- to determine the impact of CONGESTION BOTTLENECKS on the road network and prioritise remediation
- to ASSESS the travel time savings after a change has been made in the road network
- to detect the impact of SEASONS, EVENTS, INCIDENTS
- to measure the ACCESSIBILITY of a route or area, year on year
- in TRANSPORTATION MODELS as the actual driven ground truth
What information do I need to provide?
You need to tell us the location, date range and time slices that interest you. Please follow the guidelines that have been provided.
